Become a better gardener through this immersive learning experience designed for aspiring growers, educators, entrepreneurs, and sustainability professionals.

This 11-week hybrid course begins Tuesday, March 24, 2026 at 6:00 PM and concludes June 2, 2026. Weekly live sessions will be recorded for participants who are unable to attend in real time.

Throughout the course, participants will explore essential topics in urban agriculture, including:

  • Soil health and composting

  • Crop planning and seasonal production in South Texas

  • Sustainable irrigation and water conservation

  • Organic growing practices

  • Food systems and community impact

  • Garden design and site planning

Each participant will complete a service-learning project, applying course knowledge in a real-world setting. Upon successful completion of the program, participants will be eligible to sit for the Urban Farming and Gardening Certification Exam, strengthening professional credibility and workforce competitiveness in the growing green economy.

 

Meet Your Instructors:

 

Sherry Lim

Chief Learning Officer, Gardopia Gardens

Sherry Lim is a passionate environmental educator dedicated to empowering communities through garden-based learning. She holds a Master’s degree in Curriculum & Instruction from the University of Texas at San Antonio and a Bachelor’s degree in Biology from the University of Texas at Austin.

Sherry is a Certified Organic Master Gardener and Master Composter and has been teaching gardening, sustainability, and environmental stewardship since 2016. Her work integrates food literacy, waste reduction, and hands-on agricultural education to build healthier communities.

 

Stephen Lucke, BS, MA, COF

Founder & CEO, Gardopia Gardens

Stephen Lucke earned his undergraduate degree in Biochemistry (2012) and a Master’s degree in Nutrition (2020). He completed formal studies in Organic Farming (2019) and Master Gardening (2016).

Since 2012, Stephen has practiced urban agriculture across South Texas on both public and private land. As an educator since 2015, he has trained youth and adults in the principles of sustainable food production and the connections between agriculture, human health, and environmental resilience.

 

Dominic Dominguez, BS, MS, LEED Green Associate

Chief Operating Officer, Gardopia Gardens

Dominic Dominguez holds a Bachelor of Science in Environmental Science & Policy with a specialization in Biology from St. Edward’s University and a Master’s degree in Sustainability & Development from Southern Methodist University. He is a LEED Green Associate through the U.S. Green Building Council and a Certified Master Gardener and Master Wellness volunteer through Texas A&M AgriLife Extension (Bexar County).

A Clinton Global Initiative University alumnus, Dominic’s research focuses on reducing non-communicable diseases through garden-based learning. His professional expertise includes urban planning, regenerative infrastructure, GIS analysis, spatial design, and equitable food systems development.
